The FIC Festival was born from a desire to bring together new aspects of performance dramaturgy and to challenge traditional ways of making and thinking about choreography.
The leading idea behind the festival is to establish a forum and provide a space for instant choreography. From the festival’s point of view, instant choreography can include anything from improvisation to score-based performances.
The festival’s aim is to focus on performer-based instant dramaturgies instead of fixed choreographies created by an outside source. The purpose is to challenge and to celebrate both the performer and performing, and to highlight techniques that will lead to new dramaturgical thinking. These techniques may be techniques of presence, or they may be something else. Either way, we want to see them!
