As far as eye can see, there is a thick, low mist on the stage. A bird is talking somewhere on the other side of the brick wall. The further away you look, the more distant events of the past you’ll see. This performance is also for all of you, who belong to another century.
Chasing Butterflies in Unequal Time was premiered in Barker-theatre, Stage for Indenpendent Art in
Turku, in October 2019.
Jouni Järvenpää is a choreographer and a dancer. He graduated from the School for New Dance
Development in Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in 2002. Since then he ́s created many
choreographies and worked in several ensembles and on many stages, skipping over many borders
between different forms of art. He lives currently in Turku, Finland. Jouni ́s latest work includes eg. full
frontal 2019, Youth – a Narrative, Hertzsprung, and Skarabee. His upcoming choreography, Pilvet
panttereitaan imettävät, has its premiere on the 22nd of May 2020, in Barker-theatre, Stage for Indenpendent
Art in Turku. In the autumn 2020 Jouni begins working as the artistic director and choreographer of Routa
Company in Kajaani, Finland.
Nina Renvall is a choreographer and a dancer, based in Turku. She studied at the London Contemporary
Dance School, between 1986 and 1989. Her work ́s nucleus forms around the inspiration found in her
personal dance exploration. Nina’s work includes eg. Liikkeellis-kasvillisia siirtoja ja seurauksia, Ninaxin
Kooksi liikehtii, and Reginan Rapinat. She ́s currently working on a solo, Luuttomat Säkeet. Nina is a
founding member of Barker-theatre, Stage for Indenpendent Art in Turku and works in its artistic board.
